How to make game trailers

Something great happened in the indie game development space — and we couldn’t not write about it.

Polden Publishing has released a free workshop on how to make game trailers.

Over the past few years, the studio has produced around 50 trailers for indie games and built its own production process along the way. Now the team has decided to share everything they’ve learned with other game developers.

“If you don’t understand the fundamentals, it’s impossible to consistently produce good results”.

says Kirill Oreshkin, head of Polden.

That idea is at the core of the workshop. Instead of focusing on editing tricks, Polden starts with first principles: what a game trailer actually does, how visual storytelling works, and how those fundamentals can be turned into a repeatable production process.

The workshop then takes you through the entire pipeline — researching the game, finding its hooks, writing the script, capturing footage, editing, sound, and final delivery. The process is broken down into **3 stages and 17 steps**, with additional written materials, examples, and Polden’s own working templates.
